The project takes its name from policy of the Italian government during the “Years of Lead” following the unrest of 1968 and the Hot Autumn strike wave, where far-right and far-left terrorist organisations were directly encouraged, in order to destabilise the political climate and sap electoral support for the Moscow-backed Italian Communist Party and build popular consent for a build-up of authoritarian state power. Today, the events of these years seem more relevant than ever - mass governmental and corporate surveillance, an escalation of political violence, and the future of Europe and the West at large in question.

In the 21st Century, terroristic violence is the language of political exchange. This feeling of generalised nihilism is completely palpable, oscillating between mindless consumerism and infantile outbursts of individualised terror. With this record, we tried to capture some of that feeling.
